A lady- residing near the waterfront at Remuera saw a weasel the other morning on the front lawn, although the animal quickly made off (states the Auckland Star). The weasel has become fairly’ plentiful about Auckland, but it is not generally known that the animal, which is said to do much more harm than good, is protected by legislation. The Auckland Acclimatisation Society has decided to petition the Government to remove the protection from both stoats and weasels. A rabbitcr who is visiting Wanganui and who operates in the district back from Waiouru, stales that the rabbits in that locality arc hot so plentiful as they were, but a good day’s work returns on an average 25 rabbits, which pays the trapper well (states the Chronicle). In addition to disposing of the skins to the merchants, •a ready saie is found for the carcas*.
