There were rumours in Christchurch at the week-end (says our correspondent) of a threatened strike of the 800 men at the Addington Railway Worksphops as a protest against the inequity which they claim is represented by the transfer of men to the Hillside Workshops at Dunedin. General dissatisfaction exists and the Tradesmen’s Association and the A.S.R.S. men will meet shortly to decide on a course of action.” Inquiries made on Sunday evening as to the position at Hillside in respect to this matter, showed that the men in Dunedin though aware that dissatisfaction exists’ have as yet heard no rumours of such extreme methods of protest as are suggested in the Christchurch telegram. The general opinion at Hillside is that the murmurs of a strike will not advance much beyond the rumour stage.
