In the Soprano Solo on the opening day the judge's award was wrongly given. The winner of this event was Miss Olive Cawley. with Miss Elsie Gray second.

The competitions were continued on Wednesday, and the audiences were again large. The prize for original, story was awarded to Mrs E. Sutherland, of Invercargill, and Mr H. B. Reid secured first place for original poem. The judge remarked that there was a pleasing ring about the latter effort. It was written in simple metric flow with an easy grace. It also contained some touches of poetic imagery and possessed considerable merit.
