A meeting of the committee of the Dunedin Horticultural Society was held on Thursday evening. The president, Mr H. 1. Trevena, occupied the chair, and there were present: Airs J. ’lodger, Miss A. MTntyre, Messrs J. Black, J. Nelson. \V. Blackburn, G. Attwood, A G Rigby, P. 0. Vallange, E. C. 0. Hamel, A. Geddes, R. Fountain, H. S. Hu ngerford, J. Fleming, and T. Y. Turner. The President extended a welcome to the new members on the committee. Mr J. T. Gray, the winner of the cup presented by Sir George Fenwick for seedling narcissi, re-presented the cup for competition in the same class. It was resolved that Mr Gray be thanked for his kindness. The President stated that Mr J. B. Downes had intimated that he would give a trophy for the open championship in chrysanthemums, the blooms to be shown in vases, Miss R. Anderson, a cup for the amateur championship in vegetables, and Messrs Donaldson Bros, two dozen rose bushes, whilst several members of the committee promised trophies and cash prizes. On the President's' recommendation the committee was divided into sub-commit-tees as follows: Executive, finance, schedule, property, publicity, ladies, and hall and staging. On account of the unfortunate vagaries of the weather in recent years the”committee felt that it would be wise to state at present only approximate dates for the various shows, and it was resolved that the committee definitely fix the date at least a month before each show, and after consulting the growers. The approximate dates are: Spring show, last week in September; summer show, midDecember; autumn show, first week in March; and winter show, second week in May. The schedule was gone through and a number of alterations and additions made.
It was decided to allot the Moss memorial trophy for table decoration at the spring show. It was resolved that all chrysanthemums be shown in vases. —The various certifying committees were appointed for the year.
