Several blue rats have recently been caught in tho opossum traps set 'in the Mount Egmont Park, as well as large numbers of stoats (says an exchange). The trappers say that the opossums are unusually fat. due t-o the plentitudc of hinau berries. The sight of two starlings flying from a neighbour’s letter-box carrying a letter between them surprised a resident of Onehunga the other morning (says the New Zealand Herald). Recovering from his astonishment, he threw a stone at the birds, which dropped the envelope. Its contents were not valuable, but the owners of the box remain in doubt as to how much of their correspondence has already been converted into nest building material. Albert Morgan Conroy, manager of the Hawera Pictures, was charged in the Police Court on Jfriday with committing an assault on a male. He was remanded to appear at Hawera on August 18. Bail was not applied for. It is understood that a further six charges are pending.
