OAMARU COMPETITIONS.
The Oamaru musical nad elocutionary competitions were opened on Saturday. There was a large gathering at the evening session, and the Mayor (Mr Frank Crawshaw) extended a welcome to the contestants and to the judges. The official judges were:—-Mr W. Hutchens, Wanganui (vocal and instrumental) ; Mr A. Stanley Warwick, Wellington (elocution); Miss Maj' Thorn, Mataura (dancing) ; and Lieut. D. Kennedy and Mr W. Edwards (special drill). The results are as follows: —
Highland Fling, 10 and under 14. — Hazel M'Kay (Timaru), 86 pointe, 1; Tui Cairns (Oamaru), 85 points, 2; Nettie Pullar (Dunedin), 84 points, 3. Commended: Eillen Shanahan, Norina Douglas, and Phyllis Gale.
