ASHBURTON COUNTY.
August 12.—The B.S.A. motor cyclists— Messrs Cathrick and Castley—touring the world in the interests of the British motor cyclo trade were given an official welcome by the deputy Mayor, and entertained at dinner. They also received addressee of welcome at Geraldine and Temuka, and a big reception at Timaru. Roads.—The effect of the recent wet spells is showing in the streets of the borough. Ruts and potholes have appeared, and the corner of East street, near the post office, is in a bad mess owing to diversion of traffic. Scenic Resort.—The Government has consented to work being done in forming a road to Sharplin Falls, Staveley. The Ashburton branch of the C.A.A. will find £2O, the R.S.A. £3O, and with a Government subsidy this will be only £lO short. The work will be done by returned soldiers. Sport.—Hinds Seniors beat Methven, and Mayfield Juniors beat Methven; Old Boys defeated Allenton.—Winners of the hockey seven-a-side were: Old Girls A (Seniors), Rakaia A (Junior A), and Methven A (Junior B).
Dairy Supplies.—Some 50 per cent, loss cream lias been supplied to th? Ashburton Dairy Company this winter, the decrease being due to lack of feed. An improvement is expected in the near future.
