Recently it was announced that the public would be given the right to use a chain width round Lake Taupo, and a further move in the interests of the fishermen is the resumption by the Government of certain private lands near Whakaipo Bay ‘ There have been many improvements made ’ said Mr R. F. Bollard (Minister of Internal Affairs), “since Mr Coates as Minister of Native Affairs arrived at an agreement with the Maoris to allow the Government to control their rights to lands used by trout fishermen. There is no doubt that the agreement has afforded a means of developing matters in the interests of those who ply their rods in the district. On the property resumed by the Government in Whakaipo Bay there is a house which will be available *t 6 ’ lse of an £ ,ers at « moderate rental. It is proposed to extend the accommodation if it is found insufficient. Mr Bollard further stated that a report was being obtained regarding the construction of a suitable track giving the necessary road access to Whakaipo Bay either by land or water.
