FRIESIAN ASSOCIATION.

MEETING OF COUNCIL. ' A riieeting of the council of the New Zealand Friesian Association was held in Wellington recently. The president (Mr W. E. A. Gill) occupied the chair. On the motion of Messrs Wilson and Johnson, it was resolved to elect Mr John I Royds, of Christchurch to the council, to fill the vacancy caused by the retirement of Mr D, Dickie. It was resolved that Mr D.- Dickie should act as treasurer until September,

and that Mr D. J. M'Gowan be appointed treasurer of the association as from September 1, 1927. After considerable discussion, it was resolved to make the following conditions for the 1927 Royal Show, provincial group:—Two males (one bull eligible to compete in the two-year-old or older classes and one yearling bull) ; four females (one mature cow, one three-year-old heifer, one two-year-old heifer and one yearling- heifer). The mature cow, three-year-old heifer, and two-year-old heifer to be in milk or visibly in calf. Mr R. A. Wilson and Mr H. R. Green ■\vero appointed to act in an advisory capacity in connection with the establishing of the Friesian dairy herd at the New Zealand Agricultural College at Palmenston North.

It was resolved to vote the sum of £5O as prize moneys for the Friesian provincial group at the 1927 Royal Show, and to recommend the inclusion of the following two classes in the Friesian schedule for the show: —

Breeders’ Group: Bull, two-year-old or over; cow in milk (mature); heifer in milk, two Or three-year-old; heifer under two years. First prize, £4 4s ; second prize, £2 2s. Breeders’ Group: Bull and two of his daughters, not necessarily owned by the same person. First prize. £4 4s; second prize, £2 2s. It was resolved to recommend strongly to the Auckland A. and P. Association the desirability of altering its show dates from November 11 and 12, as those dates clash with the Royal Show dates at Christchurch on November 9. 10, and 11. It was resolved to write to the Canterbury Association, strong-ly urging that stalls should be made in the cattle sheds.

It was decided to recommend the appointment of Mr James Hart, of Tatuanui, as judge for the Friesian classes at the Royal Show’. It’was resolved to appoint Messrs J. M'Anulty and J. I. Royds to represent the Friesian Association at the meeting in Christchurch on November 9. It was resolved to vote £lOO towards the transport expenses of Friesians competing at the Royal Show Thirty-five new members were elected.

The following were elected junior members of the association (the first junior members to be elected): —Messrs J. Owen Gill (Wellington) R. M. Churches (Te Awamutu), V. A. Karl The following were elected an Executive Committee : —Messrs H. J. Marchant, E. C. Banks, and D. J. M'Gowan. A scheme for advertising the Friesian dairy breed throughout the Dominion was considered and adopted.
