Tho other afternoon the road grader recently acquired by the Grey Borough Council was given a try-out before an interested number of spectators (states tho Greymouth Star). The grader, which is New Zealand-made, is in some respects similar to the Weir grader, which is used by the Grey County Council, and is provided with motive power by a Fordson tractor. When required for reformin'" tho roadway, a scarifier attached to the gear of the grader is brought into use. Though light in construction, the grader did its work well, and proved much more effective than the old manual methods employed, having the distinct advantage of speed. The tractor is detachable, and can be used for other work, when not required in connection with the grader.
