FIGURES FOR JUNE QUARTER. ... YYELLINGTON, August 3. 1 he public accounts for the quarter ended June 39 show tnat the revenue received nuclei 1 lree months amounted to £4,945,589, as compared with £4,537,580 received for the corresponding period last year, an increase of £698,109. lhe principal increases are: Customs £329,039; stamp «nd death duties, £149,<07; interest on public moneys, £22.764; interest on railway capital liability, £189,447. lhe increase in the Customs receipts is due principally to the recent heavy withdrawals from bend, and will probably be offset later in the year by a decrease in the returns from this source. Ihe increase m interest on railway capital liability is largely nominal, being due chiefly to the fact that the interest was received earlier this vear than last. year. The only decrease of note is one of £32,547 in the item “recoveries on account of expenditure in previous years. The sum of £30,000 was received under this head during the previous vear in repayment of a loan made to the New Zealand and South Seas Exhibition, and this, of course, does not recur this year. The total expenditure for permanent appropriations was £4.005,076. which with tho annual appropriations of £2,088.680 makes a total of £6,093,756, compared with permanent appropriations of £3.798,697 and annual appropriations of £2,018.115, making a total of £5,816.812 for the corresponding period of last year. This is an increase of £276,944, made up as follows:— Permanent appropriations, £206.379; annual appropriations, £70,565; total. £276,944. A considerable portion of the interest due which is a setoff .against the interest payments, was not received until after June 30 this year.
