ADVERTISING LEAFLETS.
A WELLINGTON PROSECUTION. WELLINGTON, August 3. Two youths pleaded guilty in the Magistrate’s Court to a charge of distributing leaflets in Main street. Senior Sergeant Lander said it was an offence under the by-laws for persons to distribute leaflets in any public place in Wellington. The defendants were employer! by an advertising firm, and had been giving out handbills in connection with an essay competition. Mr Warburton, representing the defendants, said that the youths had handed out leaflets to school children on instructions from their employers. The Magistrate remarked that the object of the by-law was probably to prevent the streets being litterexl with paper. The defendants were ordered to pay costs.
