Kitt'-, chairmail of the V.'c! .nylon Centic. N.Z A.A.A. Dr Porritt, more than any other Rhodes Scholar who had been sent homo, had been a big advertisement for New Zealand on the athletic field. He was sure that Mr Kalaughcr. when he returned to the Dominion,. as he trusted he would, would bring honours, not only to New Zealand, but to his people. As a memento, Mr Kittc. presented Mr Kalaughcr with a fountain pen. “We shall not forget you.” added Mr Kitto, in making the presentation. “We shall be looking for news of you. and we hope that you will not forget the many friends you leave behind.”
Mr Kalaughcr, in thanking the Wellington Centre for its gift, said that his experience was 'hat the athletic meetings in Wellington were_ the best conducted in New Zealand. Wellington was by far the best place for an athlete to reside, and for that reason he thought that tlie chances of Mr R. W. Lander, who was returning to Wellington from Otago, of obtaining a place in the Olympic team would be enhanced. lie (the speaker) was going to continue as an athlete in England, and would devote his time particularly to hurdling, and, if possible, justify himself for a place in the New Zealand team for the next Olympic Games.
