(From Our Own Correspondeni ) LONDON, July 15. Lhe Senatus Academicus of the University of St. Andrews have resolved to con fer the degree of LL.D, at the forthcoming graduation ceremony in June, on Professor John Rankine Brown, M.A., Pro fessor of Classics, Victoria College, Wellington, New Zealand, formerly vice-chan-cellor of the University of New Zealand. Professor Brown is a native of St. Andrews and a graduate of the university.

The conferring of several honorary degrees has been postponed till October 7 The graduates expected to attend then for the degree of LL.D, are Professor Burnett, Emeritus i Professor of Greek, Sir Richard Gregory, editor of Nature’ Mr Knud Rasmussen, the Danish explorer, and Mr Benjamin Thomson, rector of Forfar Acadomv.

Mr R. R. T. Young (New Zealand and Jesus) has been appointed hon. secretary of the Cambridge University Lawn Tennis Club. Being unable to field a full team at Cambridge, the university received a severe defeat at the hands of the International Lawn Tennis Club in a series of doubles matches by eight matches to one. 5; ??•’ T - Youn g and A - A. Jarvis lost to Wallis Myens and G. P. Hughes (3—6 2—6)_; lost to O. G. N. Turnbull and c’ H. Kingsley (I—6, 1—6); lost to H. Hunt and J. J. Lezard (2 —6, 3—6). The New Zealand player was awarded his full fawn tennis blue in May, 1926. V. B. V. Powell (Cambridge) won the long jump—22ft 3in—from R. W. Revans ( A -A.A.) 21ft- Bin—and G. W. Pomeroy (Cambridge)—2lft 7in—at - Fenner’s ground on Saturday. The contestants were Cambridge University and an Amateur Athletic Association team. The visitors won with 66 1-6 points against 43 5-6. supplying the individual winners in seven of the 11 events. It is considered that in the whole history of athletics no finer sport has ever been seem on Fenner’s ground. The outstanding performance was the victory of Lord Burghley in the 120yds low hurdles, for he won in 14 4-ssec, and so equalled the British amateur record made by Earl Thompson, the Canadian, in 1920. Lord Burghley also won the 220yds low hurdless for Cambridge University, his time being a ground record, and the old Cantab., H. B. Stallard, won the mile for the A.A.A. team in 4min 18 4-ssec, accomplishing the best performance in that race ever seen at Fenner’s.
