TAIERI FRUITGROWERS’ ASSOCIATION.
A meeting of the Taieri Fruitgrowers’ Association was held on Saturday night at Mosgiel, when Mr A. Miller (East Taieri) was in the chair. After some committee work had been attended to, a lecture on the spraying and pruning of fruit trees was given by Air W. K. Dallas, Government orchard instructor, to the members and a fair gathering of the public. In an address spread over two hours Air Dallas held his hearers in a most interesting manner as he explained his subject. Demonstrating with two young trees, he showed the faults of bad or incorrect pruning, and the benefits of the best svstem. He made comparisons between what was in vogue in California, Australia, New Zealand, and other countries. He also had on exhibition the correct tools to be used, and displayed manv diagrams drawn up bv his department show : ’.g the relative results of the different systems of pruning. At the elose of the lecture Air Dallas answered many questions, and was accorded a hearty vote of thanks.
