STRUGGLE WITH BURGLAR.

CONSTABLE'S EXCITING TIME. WELLINGTON, July 27. Following a series of thefts, on various dates, of footwear and leather soles of a total value of £125, a watch was set in a boot factory in Egmont street, resulting in the story of a policeman’s struggle with an alleged burglar being told in the Magistrate’s Court to-day. Arthur Harold Anderson, aged 33, was charged on two counts with breaking and entering and theft, and with breaking and entering with intent to commit a crime. The accused appeared with his head swathed in bandages. Constable Bradley gave evidence to the effect that in company with Henry Fisk, a retired civil servant, he kept a look-out on the night of the 16th, resulting in his ordering an intruder to hold up his hands, instead of which the man closed with witness, who used his baton, but the man got away. Witness pursued him, and a further struggle ensued in a right-of-way. Witness again used his baton, and also called or. passers-by to assist him. but the man again got away. Witness identified the man next day among a number of others at the police station.
