THE FUNERAL OF A POPULAR FIREMAN. The late Foreman Michael Piper, who had been a member of the Dunedin Fire Brigade for more than 26 years, was, at his death, accorded a fireman s funeral. The coffin, which was carried on the Leyland pump and covered with the Union Jack, was part of a long procession headed by a massed band made up of members of the Kaikorai, St. Kilda, and Tramways “ands, and consisting of firemen from the Central Station and representatives from the Hillside Workshops, Port Chalmers, and Mosgiel Brigades ex-firemen, friends, and of 100 members of the Loyal Albion Lodge of Oddfellows, of which the deceased was a member.
