TOO MUCH OPTIMISM.
MR W. J. BOLSON'S VIEWS. DETERIORATED LAND QUESTION. WELLINGTON, July 30. At the Farmers’ Union Conference, Mr W. J. Polson,' the chairman, disagreed with the optimistic utterances heard iv-cent-ly, and considered that the Prime Minister’s statements as to the corner being turned out must be considerably discounted-. Neither the wool nor the butter market was encouraging. Settlers on deteriorated lands had a hard fight ahead of them, and he contended that the Government should remit their rents and taxes, and ought to put some of the unemployed on these lands to improve them. A resolution was nassed urging the Government to give increased subsidies to counties which have large areas of deteriorated land.
