When the Swedish steamer Borgen was passing through the Solomons recently it was stopped by a canoe containing natives and the sole white occupant of Stuart Island, who asked for medicine to fight an epidemic that was raging on the island. The man said that he was stationed on the tiny islet of the ''archipelago by a trading company, and that he had charge of 100 natives. The only communication he had with the outside world was when a provision boat arrived from Tulagi every four to six months. To connect with the Borgen he had to take the risk of venturing in the canoe several miles into the open sea. The Borgen supplied the medicine and notified Tulagi of the epidemic.
