HIBERNIAN CLUB.

lIALF-YEARLY M FETING. The half-yearly general meeting of the Dunedin Hibernian Social and Debating Club, which was held in the clubrooms, Moran Buildings, was numerously attended. The Rev. Father M'Mahon was amongst those present. The President (Mr A. Gillick) said the present was the club’s second annual meeting, and lie took the opportunity of recognising the help he had received from his fellow-officials during his term of office, and expressed gratification at the support extended to the club by the members generally. The half-yearly balance-sheet, presented by the secretary (Mr F. G. Brown) showed the receipts to have been £l7l os 2d; expenditure, £l6B Os sd; cash balance in hand, £3 2s lid ; assets over liabilities £llO 15s Ud, tho liabilities amounting to only £l. Mr J. N. Smith, in presenting tho auditors’ report, commented favourably on the satisfactory condition of the club, and, while warmly complimenting tho secretary on his diligence and efficiency, congratulated the club on its good fortune in possessing an official so painstaking and efficient. In moving the adoption of the statement of accounts, the President favourably commented on the sound position of the club, and thanked all those who. had carried out their respective tasks in a manner creditable to themselves and to the benefit of the club. He expressed gratitude to the bishop and clergy, and to generous donors and helpers generally for their assistance, and appreciation of the services rendered on many occasions by those who had acted in the capacity of judges. Recognition was also due to the efforts of St. Joseph's Ladies’ Club in arranging a very pleasurable evening recently for the debating section of the Hibernian Club. x\ notice of motion by Mr A. J. Dowling, “That all the rules heretofore made

by the Dunedin Hibernian Social Club shall be repealed as and from July 11, 1927, and the rules then approved shall be thereafter the constitution and rules of the Dunedin Hibernian Social and Debating Club,’’ was unanimously adopted. A suitably worded “motion of appreciation,’’ artistically engrossed and framed, was handed to Mr J. P. Ward by the president. The text was expressive of gratitude felt towards Mr Vard for the many valued services he had rendered in the interests of the club. In acknowledging the gift Mr Ward pointed out, to the junior members, especially, the advantages they had at their disposal in being associated with such a useful social and educative organisation. A motion of condolence with Mr Fred Behrens in his recent bereavement was passed and a copy was ordered to be sent to him. The election of office-bearers resulted as follows: —President, Mr A. Gillick (re-elected) ; vice-president, Mr A. J. Dowling; secretary, Mr F. J. Brown (reelected) ; assistant secretary, Mr R. Fraser ; treasurer, Mr F. Boyle ; auditor's, Messrs J. N. Smith and J. J. Marlow, jun. ; committee, Messrs F. Moloney, J. Ryan, W. Brooks, P. Nash, A Sullivan, R. A. King, and J. Bearn. Six new members were elected.
