DUNEDIN TEAM IN SOUTHLAND. DEFEATED BY LOCAL PLAYERS. INVERCARGILL, July 19. Sixteen members of the St. Clair Ladies’ Golf Club met a team from the Invercargill Ladies’ Golf Club at Otatara to-day under good golfing conditions. On the day the home side proved distinctly superior, winning IS games out of the 24 played. St. Clair won three singles and one foursome, the remaining two matches finishing all square. The local golfers were particularly impressed with Miss Olive Kay’s play, the Dunedin player proving herself strong in all departments of the game. The following are the results (St. Clair players being mentioned first): — SINGLES. • Miss Kay (a and 4) beat Mrs Carr. Miss Stevens (6 and 5) beat Miss Pi 1 Idler. GLENEAGLES TOURNAMENT. LONDON, July 21. At. the Gleneagles golf tournament the 32 who qualified include Melhorn 140, C. A. Whitcombe 145, Kirkwood and E. R. Whitcombe 147, and Ockenden 149. Kirkwood withdrew owing to an appointment to participate in a charity exhibition match. TWO ROUNDS PLAYED. LONDON, July 21. At Gleneag-les, in the. first round, Compston beat E. R. Whitcombe, 3 up and 2 to play ; Havers beat Williamson, 4 and 3; C. Sayner beat Melhorn, 5 and 4; W. Brown beat James Braid, 2 and 1. Other winners were: Ray, Duncan, Boomer, Ockenden, and C.
