DUNEDIN TEAM IN SOUTHLAND. DEFEATED BY LOCAL PLAYERS. INVERCARGILL, July 19. Sixteen members of the St. Clair Ladies’ Golf Club met a team from the Invercargill Ladies’ Golf Club at Otatara to-day under good golfing conditions. On the day the home side proved distinctly superior, winning IS games out of the 24 played. St. Clair won three singles and one foursome, the remaining two matches finishing all square. The local golfers were particularly impressed with Miss Olive Kay’s play, the Dunedin player proving herself strong in all departments of the game. The following are the results (St. Clair players being mentioned first): — SINGLES. • Miss Kay (a and 4) beat Mrs Carr. Miss Stevens (6 and 5) beat Miss Pi 1 Idler. Mrs Smellie (1 up) beat Mrs Barciav. Mrs Caffin lost to Mrs Pottinger (1 up). Mrs A. Paterson lost to Mrs MacDonald (9 and 7). Miss Schoen lost to Mrs Handvside (2 up). Airs Wight Jost to Miss Oughton (6 and 5). Mrs Anderson lost to Miss Henderson (0 and 5). Mrs Gilbert lost to Mrs Tanslev (1 and 3). Mrs Kilpatrick lost to Miss M'Queen (1 up). Mrs Martin lost to Mrs Israel (2 up). Mrs Jacobs lost to Airs Camm (4 and 3). Mrs W. Smellie lost to Miss Stout (4 and 3). Mrs Hudson lost to Miss Campbell (4 and 3). Mrs Wren lost to Miss Perrin (4 and 3). Mrs Wrather and Mrs Cruickshank were all square. FOURSOMES. Miss Kay and Mrs Caffin beat Mrs Pottinger and Airs Handyside (8 and 7). Aliss Schoen and Airs Anderson lost to Mrs Tansley and Aliss Henderson (4 and 2) Airs Kilpatrick and Airs Jacobs lost to Mrs Camm and Aliss APQueen (2 and 1). Aliss Martin and Airs W. Smellie lost to Airs Israel and Aliss Stout (4 and 3). Airs Hudson and Airs A. Smellie were all square with Airs Barclay and Aliss Campbell. GLENEAGLES TOURNAMENT. LONDON, July 21. At. the Gleneagles golf tournament the 32 who qualified include Melhorn 140, C. A. Whitcombe 145, Kirkwood and E. R. Whitcombe 147, and Ockenden 149. Kirkwood withdrew owing to an appointment to participate in a charity exhibition match. TWO ROUNDS PLAYED. LONDON, July 21. At Gleneag-les, in the. first round, Compston beat E. R. Whitcombe, 3 up and 2 to play ; Havers beat Williamson, 4 and 3; C. Sayner beat Melhorn, 5 and 4; W. Brown beat James Braid, 2 and 1. Other winners were: Ray, Duncan, Boomer, Ockenden, and C. Whitcombe. In the second round Kinch beat Conipston, 4 and 3, Twine beat Duncan, 3 and 2, Ockenden beat Boomer, 4 and 2. Other winners were: Havers, Ray, Whitcombe, Cotton, and Young.
