WAIPORI DAM.
Mr F. W. Furkert, engineer-in-chief of the Public Works Department, arrived in Fhmedin on Wednesday night, and went to Waipori on Thursday morning. Mr Furkert will investigate the dam now under course of construction there, and will report to his department whether it can be safely raised from its present height of 4Gft odd. to 110 ft (cr even 60ft), or whether the City Council will have to construct a new dam on a site below the existing structure. The City Council will bo governed by the decision of tho Public Works Department. As Cr Shacklock, chairman of tho Electric Power and Lighting Committee, stated at the meeting of the council on Wednesday night, the council is bound hand and foot by the Public Works Department.
