REQUESTS FROM BEEKEEPERS.
WELLINGTON, June 14. Representing the National Beekeepers’ Association, Messrs A. Aeroyd and A. R. Bates approached the Minister of Agriculture (the Hon, O. J. Hawken) to-dav with a request that the Government should subsidise contributions within the industry. They* stressed also the need for the establihment of a new apiary, suggesting South Canterbury as the site. It was stated that the equipment at the Ruakine State Farm was insufficient to meet advanced requirements. The Director-general of Agriculture (Dr 0. J. Reakes) said that the policy of the department was to make as manyinstitutes as possible a commercial success. If we expend public money even on an improvement of this sort we want a return,” the Minister said. It was costing the Government £4OOO annually to help the beekeepers. That was a fairiy large sum considering the production value of the industry. The Minister promised to revise the Apiaries Act,
