STUDY OF CIVICS.
CLAIMS OF LEAGUE OF NATIONS. WELLINGTON. June 14. Some important resolutions regarding the teaching of civics and internationalism were adopted by the Council of Education. With reference to civic training, it was resolved: “That the council considers every opportunity should be taken in the schools to promote 'the ideals of social service, the council being impressed with! the paramount need for educative work in tho direction of international knowledge as an indispensable preliminary for international goodwill and service. “It recommends the department to utilise more fully the School Journal and Educative Gazette for tho purpose of familiarising the schools with the organisation and activities of the League of Nations and the ideals of union.” “It expresses pleasure at the increasing support being accorded the Boy Scout and Girl Guide movements, and approves of the growing appreciation of the cultural value of music.” Another resolution was passed “urging the department to require teachers to give instruction in swimming in all schools where reasonable facilities exist.”
