INVENTIONS & APPLIANCES OF INTEREST TO AGRICULTURE.

SELF-LIFT PLOUGH. A rope is carried from the tractor to a lever on the plough. This lever being pulled, rocks a shaft which swings dogs into engagement with teeth rigidly secured to the ground wheel hubs. The

wheels being thus locked, the tractive force on the beam pulls the crank axle forward, raising the frame and ploughs. The frame locks in either raised or lowered position. WEEDER. This weeder has a cranked axle with a fixed forwardly extending arm connected by a link to a hand lever. This means is used to turn the axle and raise

or lower the frame. Depending from the iear crossbar of the frame are hangers ioiwardly curved at their lower ends, where a weeder bar is attached. This bar travels under the soil and uproots weeds.

CULTIVATOR. The crossbars of the frame of this cultivator are pivoted on the main beam and their ends connected by links. They are angled by a hand lever and ratchet, and

the teeth thereby set in a stepped position to each other. The teeth are pivoted under the front crossbar and pass through slides under the rear crossbar. TRACTOR- CULTIVATOR. This cultivator is designed for the three wheel type of tractor and the cultivator beams are arranged on each side of the steering wheel. A cross beam is attached to the front of the steering truck, and

the beams are supported on arms depending from the ends of the cross beam. Control rods extend to the rear of the tractor, and these lift the beams high and level.

TRACTOR JACK. This jack has a clamping bracket which is secured to the front tractor axle. The carriage is placed under the crank case with the lifting bracket tilted forward.

The handle is turned, turning the treaded rod in the threaded sleeve and thereby drawing on the draft bars of carriage. This brings the lifting bracket to a vertical position and lifts the tractor.

VERTICAL SNAPPING ROLL. In vertical rolls with longitudinal ribs the stalks sometimes slide upwardly on the rolls instead of being gripped by-

them. In this roll the upper half has large horizontal ribs with transverse staggered ribs between them. The lower half is similar, but the ribs are smaller. This is said to ensure efficient feeding.
