It was stated that many spoilsmen did not carry their licenses in their pockets, and -when challenged, the reply generally was: “I’ve left it'at the camn.’’ Thirty years ago - Auckland had a flock of rooks, but the birds have apparently died out, and the young Aucklander of to-day has no knowledge of the local bird (remarks, the Auckland Star) In 1869 the Acclimatisation Society imported a pair of rooks, and in the following year introduced a. flock of 64 The birds frequented the high eucalyptus trees in the Government House grounds. They were local in their habits and, although the flock multiplied fdr some years, the birds did not shift from where they were originally liberated.
