A referendum taken by the Auckland Education Board on the question of whether discretionary power should be granted t® make appointments _ of married women teachers resulted in that course being favoured. Out of 2100 teachers in th® board’s employ, 1298 were in favour and 311 against. It was decided to send th® figures to the Minister and other boards. During the hearing of some liquor cases in the Waihi. Magistrate’s Court the othet day, the incidents of which included th® chase of a couple of suspects by two constables, one of the defohd-v».t< was asked why he ran away? He replied; “Welk everyone else was running, so I thought K would run, too.”—(Laughter.)
