The pig menace in the steep country of the Wanganui River basin is assuming serious proportions (reports the Chronicle). The settlers in many areas now find that an annual campaign against the pigs is necessary before each lambing season begins. On one farm where the number of breeding ewes is from 2000 to 2500, nearly . 1000 pigs have been slaughtered every year/ for the past five years, but the mortality amongst lambs on account of the pigs is still high. The Government’s refusal to give the settlers any aid against these , pests is causing a lot of dissatisfaction.
