WORKERS’ EDUCATIONAL ASSOCIATION.

EXCURSION AND CONFERENCE. About 45 members and supporters, of the Workers’ Education Association journeyed to Outram on Saturday afternoon for an excursion and conference. In the afternoon Mr Martin, who is the tutor of the geology class, explained the geological features of Outram Glen. He showed the class the effects of erosion, and contrasted the history of the West Coast with its signs of a glacial epoch with the eastern side'of New Zealand. After members had had picnic tea, they walked to the Outram Hall, where the general plan of work for the year was discussed. Dr Fisher, the director of tutorial classes, detailed the list of classes that would be held during the winter, and Mr Ross outlined the schemes for an Easter camp, a Saturday evening drama class, and the correspondence tuition for country ‘ students. The chairman of the Outram class (Mr Stewart) took charge at 8 p.m., and the meeting, which included residents of Outram, assembled to hear a general discussion of the question, “Is the White Race Superior?” in which Dr Fisher, Dr Muriel Bell, and Mr Ross took part, The outing was very successful.
