LOCAL LOANS BOARD.

PERSONS EL ANNOUNCED. MR G. A. LEWIN A MEMBER. WELLINGTON, March 1. The Minister of Finance, the Hon. W. D. Stewart, announced to-day that the personnel of the Local Government Loans Beard had now been completed. Under the legislation passed last session the board is constituted as follows:—Officers for the time being holding in the Public Service the offices of Secretary of the Treasury, the Engineer-in-Chief of the Public Works Department,'and five other persons to be appointed by the GovernorGeneral.

The Governor-General has appointed the following:—Mr R. A. Anderson (Invercargill), Mr G. 0. Godfrey (Wellington), Mr W. J. Holdsworth (Auckland), Mr G. A. Lewin (Duhpdin),-and Mr S: A. R. Mair (Hunterville). These latter appointments will be for a period of one year from April 1. The Local Government Loans Board Act comes into operation on April 1, and it is intended to assemble the board immediately in order to decide on the formal procedure, so that there will be no delay in dealing with local authority applications. The chairman of the board will be Mr Hayes, Secretary of the Treasury. Mr Anderson is a well-known business man in Invercargill, the present manager of J- G. Ward and Co., a member of the Southland Power Board and the Bluff Harbour Board. Mr Godfrey was Assistant-Under-Secre-tary of the’ Public Works Department until 1923, one of the original members of the Highways Board, nnd«>is now permanent head of the Marine Department. Mr Lewin is Dunedin's town clerk, and is looked upon as an authority on local body finance. ■ Mr Holdsworth is a well-known merchant in Auckland, the present chairman of the Electric Power Board. Mr Mair is engineer to the Rangitikei Countv, a past president of the Society of Civil Engineers, and a member of the Engineers’ Registration Board.
