MYSTERIOUS FIRES.

CHRISTCHURCH, March 2. In the space of three months Mr H. A. Young, S.M., has had one car burned and another one damaged by fire. Each time the car has been in the garage when the fire has occurred. About three monthsago, when the first car was destroyed, the machine was placed in the garage at 8 p.m., and it was not until 4.30 a.m. that the fire was discovered. Though the brigade arrived within seven minutes the car and the double garage were destroyed, in addition to some of Mr Young’s personal effects. Mr Young was at a loss to explain the outbreak. A few days ago Mr Young discovered a fire in the front seat of his new car, and portion of the front seat and the back was on fire. Mr Young had not been smoking in the car, and experiments showed that, an ordinary lighted match placed on the upholstery would not ignite it, unless the leather were cut. Access to the garage is by a drive, which passes the house. A detective was called to investigate the latest outbreak. '
