GAELIC SOCIETY.

The monthly meeting of the -Gaelic Society was held on Friday in the Oddfellows’ Hall. Stuart street. There was a good attendance of members, presided over by Chief D. Munro and Chieftain R. M'Kenzie, W. H. M‘Lcod, and T. Ritchie. The Chief, in a few words, congr tulatcd a fellow member. Air J. S. Douglas, on being made president of the Federated Scottish Societies of Dunedin. Air J. S. Douglas outlined the function of the society, and thanked the chief for his kindly remarks. The chief reminded members that this was the final meeting of the year, and thanked them for the support given him during the year. The first item on the programme was a Gaelic song by Air Angus Kennedy, “Gleann Dha Ruah,” and to an encore he gave “Anns a gleann s’ robh mi og.” Other contributions were: —Aliss Zaffer, “The Auld Scotch Saugs” and “Ye Banks and Braes”; Air Murdoch Johnson, “The Standard on the Braes of Alar” anil “Loch Lomond”; Air Al'Beath, Gaelic song, “Ha in’runn air a ghllle”; Airs Mathewson and Air Al. Johnson, “Huntingtowcr”; Aliss Al. Kennedy, “Eilean Mallach.” “Cruachan-Beann,” and “Morven” ; Air Rogers, “MacGregor’s Gathering” and “Aluletcer of Malaga”; Airs Mathewson, “Aly Ain Wee Hoose” and “They Are Far, Far Awa’ ”; Air J. S. Douglas, “Eileen Allanah”; Chieftain T. Ritchie, “Scots Wha Hae” and “Cam Ye by Athpl.” Aliss Georgina Alunro danced a fling. Aliss Zaffer was the accompanist. Air Woods took the part of AI.C. to the short dance following the programme.
