MOTOR HILL CLIMB.

BEARDMORE TAKES SPEED CUP. Glorious weather favoured the Otago Motor Club’s hill-climb, which was held on the Bethune’s Gully hill on Saturday afternoon. There was an attendance of some 5000 spectators, and, in view of this, it was disappointing that the entries in the various events were so poor. From the top of the hill to the bottom the banks were lined with onlookers, and on all corners likely to be productive of a display of spectacular riding knots of enthusiasts were gathered in anticipation of thrills. The Upper Junction road also had its full quota of sightseers, and for more than half of its length it was lined with an assorted collection of ears of all powers, sizes, and makes. Not the least interested of the spectators were numerous small boys who showed an interest in the competitors, their machines, and the racing, which far transcended that of many of the grown-ups. “What was the time in that race?” inquired one diminutive enthusiast of tho timekeeper. On being informed that it was 29sec outside that of the fastest time, this small critic gave vent to a snort. All the drivers and riders came in for their share of criticism from theso budding motorists. A good performance was applauded vociferously, and the .driver who was unlucky enough to register a slow time was heckled unmercifully. The following are tho results: —
