A youth named Harry Lynch had a narrow escape from being drawn under the propellers of the Kaiapoi when the steamerwas coming up the Grey River the other afternoon (reports the Greymouth Star). Lynch had swum across the river to tiro Cobden side, and was endeavouring to cross back in front of the steamer, when he found he was unable to get past and shouted for help. Another swimmer named Harold Jackson went to his assistance, the steamer's engines being promptly stopped, when the lad’s plight was noticed.
