AGRICULTURAL EDUCATION.

THE GOA’ERNAIENT’S POLICY. AUCKLAND, February 15. The members of the Auckland University College Council ‘ were surprised to learn that Cabinet had decided to withdraw the cite of 50 acres in the Orakei Garden suburb, which was provisionally set apart some -years ago for university purposes, and merge it in the general subdivision. The information was'conveyed in a letter from the Acting Prime Alinister, the Hon. W. Downie Stewart. The council confirmed the action of the president, the Hon. George Fowlds, in writing to Air Downie Stewart and stating that Cabinet had acted on a misapprehension ■ —namely, that the site had been set apart for agricultural education instead of for general university purposes. The president and Air G. H. Wilson were appointed to wait upon the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, in regard to the matter when he next visits Auckland.' Air ■ Fowlds stated that the late. Air Alassey had actually invited the council to apply for a portion of the Orakei block. This was before the council had any knowledge .whether or not the Logan Campbell bequest for agricultural, education would - become available. The whole matter was then

settled and approved by the council. Aluch later, after the adoption of t'he lay-out plan, he and Air G. H. Wilson had discussed the position with Mr Coates, with the result stated in the reply to Mr Downie Stewart.
