A painful accident befell a well-known business man who, within the last few weeks, has adopted the calling of Izaak Walton. With a companion, also' a “newclium” at angling, the principal of the story was threshing the Ashburton River the other day (remarks the Guardian), but his companion, who had an. immense fly on the end of his line, kept too near him, and after one of his flourishes with the rod he found he had caught something. It was his companion’s nose. Tha hook took the unfortunate angler near the point of his nose, and all efforts to remove the unnatural ornament were without avail, so the sufferer was brought into Ashburton, where it was taken out by a doctor. A young man who advertised in an Auckland newspaper that he had a motor, cycle for sale is now lamenting his rashness in placing too much trust in the honesty of strangers. A man called to see the cycle, stsf rig that he wished to buy a machine, and giving the name as “Williams.” He asked to be allowed try the machine, and with the owner's consent he jumped on it and rode away., He has not since;• been seen by the owner.
