BUSH FIRES.
TIMELY CHANGE OF WIND. \ K.. A MELBOURNE, February 14. Grave danger, threatening a dumber of towns from bush fires, was averted over the week-end mainly through a change 01 wind. The position in many centres is still obscure owing to the interruption of communications, but it is known that the damage has been enormous. Many districts are experiencing the worst fires in history. i* OUTBREAK IN TASMANIA. HOBART, February 14. Bush fires around the vicinity of Hobart caused extensive damage. A party of bluejackets from a warship rushed to the scene and assisted in fighting the flames, which are now under control. February 15. Raging bush fires swept across many miles of the southern portion of Bruny Island. Fortunately no lives were lost, but tremendous damage was done to crops and stock. Several timber mills and the Anglican Church at Adventure Bay, as well as many settlers’ homes, were destroyed.
