Alterations to the calliope dock are under way to accommodate the Northumberland on his arrival in Auckland in about nine days’ time. The liner is 550 ft overall, and the floor space of the dock is approximately 520 ft long. Gelignite is being used to loosen the concrete steps and chute at the top, preparatory to cutting a portion away, so' that 34ft of the Northumberland’s bow will fit in.
