WOOL ALLOTMENTS.

ST AILMENT BY COMMITTEE. r ri x- WELLINGTON, February 3. lhe New Zealand Wool Committee held a special meeting this week to give further consideration to applications which it had thaT'ihl ce s tain wool-selling centres that the allotments made by the committee for the February wool sales should be in<'reased. This committee was first set u» by the Government in 1921 under the powers of the Board of Trade Act. It is an honorary body consisting of representative wool-growers and wool brokers, and its function is to determine the maximum a-rre-rab. quantities of wool that- mav Im ottered for sale in any period, or at any ’•> 'he official statement issued on behalf oi the committee by its chairman (Mr vvilliani Perry, of Masterton) it is explained that: “The aim of the committee is to regulate the offerings at the various wopl-selling centres throughout the Dominion, so that at no one sale, or during any particular period, shall more wool bo offered Uun can be absorbed at satisfactory competitive prices. In making the allocations heed must be given to the fact that'Xjphearing is earlier in certain parts of the Dominion than in others, and also to the comparative quantities on offer throughout the season in the different districts. Although it is only natural that individual centres should view the matter from a district standpoint, and, while the committee must deal with each on its merits, it must be apparent that the committee can onlv consider the claims of each’ district in relation to the paramount im< portance of the whole Dominion. ‘'The allocations made by the committee earlier in the season provided for an estimated offering during the months of January and February—the two heaviest months—l42,l7l and 144,766 bales respectively, making a total of 286,937 bales, this out of an estimated total offering in all sales in the November-March roster of approximately 500.000 bales.
