THEFT OF MONEY.
FLIGHT IN TAXI. CHRISTCHURCH, February 4. Taking a taxi to Rakaia was the way that Lawrence Patrick M’Carthy, aged 24, adopted to follow up his theft of £37 10s from Hugh Daniel Kennedy last Wednesday. M'Carthy was charged before Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court to-day. “This will do me, thanks. Ido not want to be tried,” said M’Carthy, choosing to be dealt with summarily. “This man was staying with his sister at Sumner,” said Chief Detective Lewis. “He took the money, left the house and took a taxi to Rakaia, where he was found. The money recovered amounts to £24 10s lid.” M’Carthy was admitted to probation for two years, and was ordered to refund the missing £l3.
