RESTRICTIONS ON DOGS.

PROPOSED AUCKLAND BY-LAW. AUCKLAND, February 4. The proposal to limit the liberty of dogs was considered by the Auckland City Coupcil, the suggestion being that a bylaw similar to ■’hat now in force in Devoiiport should be put into effect. The suggestion came from the chief traffic inspector, who said that many complaints had been received of damage done t private garder.s by stray dogs. He submitted a draft by-law as follows: — “No person shall allow any dog to accompany him, or stray on any reserve, private or public street under the control of the Auckland City Council, ’ unless the dog is continuously kept under control by means of a leading chain or strap or other efficient contrivance.” • The inspector said that the Devonport by-law provided, further, that it should be lawful for any constable or officer of the council to seize and detain any dog not under control, and, if unclaimed for 48 hours, to destroy it, and also that the provisions of the ly-law should not apply to drovers driving stock in the borough.
