OTAGO HOSPITAL BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Otago Hospital Board was held on Thursday. There were present Mr W. E. S. Knight (chairman), Mrs Macdonald. Messrs Dove, Queleh, Morgan, M'Lennan, Scurr, Gallaway, and Dr Newlands. The Director-general of Health wrote Intimating that the Minister, had approved of the appointment of Miss Grater as junior house surgeon. The Minister had also approved of the appointment of Dr Jas. Thomson as medical superntendent. The .Minister had further approved of the appointment of Dr Alexander Gillies as resident surgical officer (senior) at the Dunedin Hospital.—Received. The. Chairman of the Tuapeka County Council forwarded a cheque for £5O, as a donation from Mr J. J. ’Woods.—Received, a vote of thanks being passed to Mr Woods for his generosity. . Miss Alice J, Muskett'forwardcd a donation of £1 Is. —Received with thanks. Mrs _E. Carter wrote expressing her appreciation of the attention paid to her sons • ■t the Wakari Hospital and the Pleasant .Valley Sanatorium.—Received.

The Secretary to the board reported the receipt of donations totalling £55 3s 6d from Chinese residents. —Received with thanks, the Chairman remarking that it was an annual matter. The Medical Superintendent reported as to improvements required in the casualty and out-patient departments. In the former case more accommodation was required, and in the latter better lighting was necessary.—Referred to the Hospital and Works Committees. In connection with the adoption of the Benevolent Committee’s report, Mr Scurr proposed that a letter of thanks be sent to Lady Ferguson for her entertainment of the old people at her home. He said that she had given the old people an admirable entertainment. He thought that a letter, of appreciation should be sent to Lady Ferguson.—The motion was seconded by Mr Dove and agreed to. The reports of the Sanatorium, Hospital, and Finance Committees were adopted, without comment.
