DISTURBANCE ON DEVON.
GREASER AND FIREMAN SENT TO PRISON. CHRISTCHURCH. January 26. A disturbance arose on the Devon's trip from Auckland to Lyttelton. Half a dozen • men were engaged in some trouble on the foredeqk, while on the ladder leading down from the forecastle head two men thumped the mate with their fists and seized hold of his legs. The mate clung to the rail to prevent being dumped on the deck. At the Lyttelton Police Court this morning Thomas Robson, a greaser, and John Sullivan, a fireman, were charged with assaulting. on January 22. the mate, Edwin John Williams, by striking him with their fists and catching hold of his legs. Both accused, who pleaded guilty, were sentenced to three months’ imprisonment.
