BALLARAT CELEBRATIONS.
The City of Ballarat, Victoria, for many years known as the Golden City, and since the mining has petered out, as the Garden City, is having a “Home to Ballarat” celebration from January 26 to February 4. Former residents of the city now resident in Dunedin considered it fitting that they should be represented, and, further, that they should send an autograph album. This is a very handsome volume, containing 11 photographic views of Dunedin. The frontispiece is a fine piece of work in water colours from the brush of Mr H. J. Hankinson, a former Ballarat resident, and bears the inscription “Home to Ballarat, from Ballarat Citizens Resident in Dunedin, New Zealand.” The album contains the names of some 40 residents, including the Hon. Mark Cohen, Mr and Mrs Isaac Stevenson, Mr A. J. Cope, Mr and Mrs W. D. Snowball, Mr A. A. Paape, Mr C. G. Smeaton, Mrs F. G. Cumming, Mr H. P. Campbell, Mr and Mrs T. F. Hart, Mr H. G. Ford. Mr F. G. Paape, Mr W. H. Johnston, Mr H. Prowse, Mrs R. Newall, Mr and Mrs H. J. Hankinson, Mrs James Jeffery, and Mr and Mrs H. 0. Hollands. The book is handsomely bound in full Morocco leather. Mesdames Alf. Newall and Mrs H. O. Holland are leaving by the Moeraki for the celebrations, and will personally present the souvenir at the gathering.
