The bush near Kaeo, in the Wbangaroa County, which the Kauri Timber Company is arranging to cut, contains some 25 to 30 million Icet of kauri. Revival of the industry will mean a great deal to the Kaeo district. The bush to be dealt with is about 15 miles from Kaeo, and the Whangaroa County Council has met the company with mutual satisfaction in arrangements for laying a tramline to the bush, a part of which line will travel over the county road. Whether the timber will be milled at Wliangarba is not yet determined It is possible that the logs may be rafted direct to Auckland. The period it will take to cut out the kauri is estimated at about five years; and if a mill is set up there should be work for something like over 100 men. The whole of the brown trout eggs (some 530,000) at the Temuka Hatchery have now hatched out, and also the first lot df rainbow ova, and it- will be only a fegr days before the boxes will be fully occupied by 750,000 young fry, It is a matter for congratulation that such a marked sucess has attended the ranger's (Mr J, S. Main) efforts in rearing such season archery has been In use.
