NORTH OTAGO
NEWS FROM THE DIBTRICT. FUKEURI WORKS. The Pukeuri freezing works have had a very satisfactory season, in spite of the fact that there have been a reduced number of lambs in the district. The slaughtering during the past three years has been as follows: 1925-26 193,655 1924-25 214,000 1923-24 137,000 A large proportion of the lambs slaughtered this season have already been shipped. At present thore ore 60,000 carcases in store, and those will bo shipped by two cargo steamers within the next few weeks. OTAGO EXPANSION. The movements of the Otago Expansion League are closely watched by residents of North Otago. It has been suggested that this district should form a branch of the Otago League, and throw in its a weight with other institutions of the kind in scouring a proper recognition of the claims of the South Island. Possibly the Otago League would be disposed to take the initiative in the matter of the formation of a branch here.
