The long-delayed erection of the new Kauangaroa Bridge, has been begun, and Mr W. Silt, the contractor, and his staff have started manufacturing the piles and assembling the materials (reports the Wanganui Chronicle) The deck level of the bridge, which will be supported by two towers, with a main span of 223 feet, and approach spans of 40 feet, will be 35 feet above the stream. Some of the material employed will be pioked up from the stream bed, where it was left after a disastrous flood on March 12, • 1924, had brought disaster to the bridge then under construction. In the meantime a sinuous swing bridge has served the needs of the settlors. The new structure will cost about £7OOO. Influenza, while still very prevalent in Wellington, is said to be decreasing, and there will be no need to doso the schools.
