SIR GEORGE CLIFFORD.
WELLINGTON, July 7. Many fine tributes were paid to Sir George Clifford yesterday on his election to the office of president of the New Zealand Racing Conference for the twentyfourth successive year. "You are great, but not tyrannous,” remarked Mr J.' S. Barratt when addressing, the chair during the afternoon. Later, in seconding Mr W. E. Bidwill’s motion for Sir George’s re-election, he stated that their president had been to racing what Signor Mussolini had been to Italy.
