AUCKLAND’S COLD SNAP.
HEAVY FEOSTS RECOB DED. AUCKLAND, July 5. Visitors who are accustomed to hear of Auckland’s sub-tropical climate have been surprised to note the .coldness of the weather this winter, especially during the past week-end, when white frosts were experienced. The thermometer in several places recorded several degrees below freezing point. However, clear skies and bright sunshine made for ideal weather on Saturday and yesterday. The heaviest frosts this winter played havoc ‘in many gardens in the suburbs. The minimum temperature at Mount Albert on Saturday was 25deg.—7deg. below freezing point. Water in an exposed position in one property was covered with a thin sheet of ice by 11 o’clock at night, and this had not entirely melted by noon yesterday.
