DESTRUCTION OF RABBITS.
TRAPPING CONDEMNED. CHRISTCHURCH, July 7. While in favour of the YVaimakariri River Trust’s rabbit control policy, Mr G. Shipley, a member of the Waimairi County Council warned the trust that at its meeting to-day of the serious consquences that would result if extensive trapping were permitted on the area under its jurisdiction. Mr Shipley said that it was only a auestion of time before this county would be overrun with rabbits, for at present some of the trust’s tenants were permitting trapping on their runs. In his opinion there was only one satisfactory method of coping with the rabbit problem and that was by poisoning. Mr F. G. Horrel, speaking in support, said that he knew from personal experience that what Mr Shipley said was correct. On runs in Southland where trapping was prohibited, there were few, if any, rabbits. Mr Shipley was thanked for his warn* mg.
